Vedic literature, and, for convenience, these may be divided into
two parts; the first comprising those passages which directly
d,es<;ribe or {efer to the long night, or the long dawn; and the
second consisting of myths and legends which corroborat~ and
indirectly support the first. The evidence in the first part being
direct, is, of course, more convincing; and we shall, therefore,
begin with it in the next chapter, reservi~g the consideration
of the Vedic myths and legends to the latter part of the book.
