Seminars & Workshops
SEMINAR I: “GREAT EXPECTATIONS!”
Today’s workforce has different expectations from their jobs than their parents
and grandparents. Human Resource Departments have had to adjust hiring
practices, evaluation policies, implement more flexible work hours, etc., etc., to
entice and retain quality employees. What motivates the different age groups?
How best are these generations integrated to create a more positive workforce?
Mike Keyes, Sr. VP, North America Region, Brown-Forman; and Curt Steinhorst,
Founder of FocusWise, will provide their expertise on this important issue.
Moderator: Mike Keyes, President, North America Region, Brown-Forman
Speaker: Curt Steinhorst, Certified Keynote Speaker, The Center for Generational Kinetics
SEMINAR II: “THE IMPACT OF DIGITAL RETAILING”
Will shopping malls survive? Are ‘mom and pop’ stores a thing of the past? With the three tier system and other
regulatory practices for alcohol, will digital retailing for the alcohol beverage industry replace the brick and mortar
stores of today? Cyber-Monday has quickly become as important as, if not exceeded the importance of Black Friday.
Will this trend continue to outpace in-store shopping? What has the impact been on other industries? Can the control
jurisdictions adapt? What about social responsibility? So many questions! This panel will provide some answers.
Moderator: Jeffrey Painter, NABCA Director and Chairman, Virginia Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control
Speakers: Danny Brager, Sr. Vice President, Beverage Alcohol Practice, Nielsen Company
George Soleas, President and CEO, Liquor Control Board of Ontario
SEMINAR III: “SIDE EFFECTS”
On the one hand, it appears as if America is beginning to accept the availability of marijuana while at the same time the
country is recognizing opioids are causing irreparable damage to society, especially the youth. There also appears to be
recognition of increased problems, as evidenced by the Surgeon General’s recent report on addiction. What impacts,
pro and con, have occurred in the early stages of legalized recreational marijuana? Will opioid addiction receive all the
attention to the exclusion of other research and resources? Does this impact alcohol regulation? Public health experts
and law enforcement officials discuss this apparent change in attitude and strategy.
Moderator: Shauna Helfert, NABCA Director and Administrator, Montana Department of Revenue
Speakers: Dr. Jonathan P. Caulkins, Professor of Operations Research & Public Policy, Carnegie Mellon University
Heinz College
John A. Jackson, Chief of Police, Greenwood Village Police Department
