17. Cape Town International Airport is the
gateway to the Western Cape for many tourists flying
from overseas and for many travellers their first view
of South Africa is world wonder Table Mountain framed
in an airplane window. This modern airport serves a
number of international and domestic routes. From the
departure hall windows one can see the majestic Hot-
tentots Holland mountains to the north east – the major
barrier that the trekkers to the hinterland had to nego-
tiate way back – they even had to disassemble wagons,
carry them over the mountain and reassemble on the 18 Lighthouses around the coast include Moullie
other side before the pass builders came on the scene. Point, Cape Point, Danger Point, Cape Recife and the
very interesting structure at Cape Agulhas, built in
1848 as the third one ever in South Africa. As such
these historic structures warrant a separate tour.
