Sometimes, he quickly mentioned such an event and then immediately he kept quiet and never described it again. It seems to me that it is one thing to know other’s destiny, and it is another but more difficult thing to be able to keep it secret. My father seemed to know far more than what he ever disclosed ! I shall now describe some things that my mother informed of, relating to my father. It is interesting to know that my mother used to have quarrels with my father regarding his negligence in owning a house and in not making a larger income using his connection to the devotees. Also, she never bowed to my father even during the Thursday prayers, when each and everyone present would bow to him and touch his feet. But, when it came to describing my father’s spirituality, she seriously described him as a master, with confidence. To get recognition as a spiritual master by one’s own wife is a rare thing! My mother had mentioned to me that though they gave birth to six children in all, the actual physical sexuality between the two of them was quite infrequent. What she meant was that my father was naturally inclined to celibacy.
She told me that my father used to suffer illness for his devotees. On one occasion, he was extremely ill and was unable to get up due to swollen legs and go to the Thursday prayer location. At this point, a medicinal herb (Muli) emerged out of the photo of Shirdi Saibaba in the shrine worshipped by my father. On making a paste from this root and applying it to my father’s legs, the swelling subsided immediately and he was able to attend the Thursday prayer.
