• An enterprise private cloud is internal resource for the parts of the organization that own the applications that run there and it
offers elasticity of resources — allocated dynamically to applications as needed, potentially scaling up and down swiftly and
significantly on request. The enterprise owns, operates and houses the Cloud. It has exclusive central control of, and access to,
resources, but the costs and burdens of management are internally-borne. There is a high-cost of overcapacity and low resource
utilization but with potential for some elasticity of resources. This model does afford and opportunity for improved resource
utilization (over dedicated systems) with somewhat reduced cost of business if divisions/function of the enterprise act as
independent tenants
• A managed private cloud is similar to an enterprise private cloud but is operated by a Managed Service Provider who may also
house the Cloud but does not own the it. The benefit of this model is that is reduces skill/labour requirements whilst retaining
closed access and a high level of control (eg. xhange management).
• Public cloud is external to the enterprise and is owned, managed and operated by a third party provider. The resources are
shared not only between various applications but also between many independent organizations — customers of the given cloud
provider. This model offers strong skills and asset leverage (effectively using the Providers capital) but with the risk of open
access and no level of control.
• A Community Public Cloud is a variation of a Public Cloud but one that restrict access to a closed group of users (referred to as
a community). This type of Cloud is typically used by Government agencies, and some vertical industries (eg. Healthcare).
• A Virtual Private Cloud is also owned, managed and operated by a third party provider but has closed access (for the
enterprise) achieved through (typically) dedicated/secure connections. This also provides the enterprise with an increased level
of control.
