 2030-JONE
“What?” cried Seige, thinking his premonitions were cor- rect.
“We were in time trial finals, and Mark was at the top of the class.”
“Tell me what happened man!”
“Someone modified his fuse, Seige. It blew up in his face.” “Calm down. It won’t be in vain. I am taking steps as we
speak to get you out of there. By the way, if you get a page you know our drill, got it.”
“Got it.”
Seige hung up the phone determined to find the saboteur. Brock walked toward Seige replacing the receiver.
“Seige, what’s wrong?” he asked.
“Rick is dead. All this time I’ve been wondering, waiting for something to happen, and now it has. Oh shit! I forgot I had another page.”
Brock waited as Seige made his call, and hung up frozen in thought. Brock didn’t speak because he could tell from the one- sided conversation he had overheard that a team members’ family had been killed in an accident.
“Surely you don’t think any death connected with the team is an accident,” he told Seige.
“Surely,” Seige answered. “And it’s time to move. Here’s the plan. Before I get any more emergency messages, I’m calling our director to get all of us released from these schools. In the mean- time you page the task force and tell them to rally at point x-ray, at 1900 hours Zulu, day after tomorrow. I don’t know who it is, but I smell vendetta and it’s time to get off of the menu. When you reach the men tell them to initiate family contingency A by noon tomorrow.”
“Okay, boss. Anything else?”
“When you finish, saddle up. It’s time for us to leave.”
