152 JAGGEDEDGE
Ping! A small two-inch concrete chip bounced from his chest as he retreated.
“Too close,” he thought, rolling away from the edge.
He shifted to another part of the edge, aimed and shot. Ping! Ping! The surprised sniper rested motionless in the
prone. Ping! Ping! Sky shot again and no movement occurred. “That was too easy,” he mused. “He must have known I was
here already. Something in this pot stinks.”
He panned back toward his right and noticed three men
moving toward the safe house.
Zing! Zing! The closest of the three men fell dead.
Zing! Zing! The center rusher’s lifeless body was thrown into
a brick mailbox.
Zing! The last rusher fell dead three feet from the front door. Ten seconds elapsed as Sky waited for others.
“Sienna was startled hearing the bump on the front door. “Mom,” she said, “I think something is wrong.”
“I know, honey. I heard it too. Get your stuff together. I’m
calling Sky.”
“Okay.” Sienna ran back to the table to shutdown her com-
puter and get it ready to move.
“Oh my goodness! Where did we put that radio?” Jennifer
asked.
“I think it may be in your room,” Sienna offered.
Jennifer ran to the bedroom saying, “Just stay here and don’t
move.”
Sienna slid the computer back into her rucksack with her
software.
“I found it,” Jennifer said running from the bedroom and
turning on the radio.” “Sky!” she called. “I mean, Number One! Come in Number One!”
“This is Number One. Everything is okay, but we’ve had a little change in plans. I will be there very shortly, and you both should be ready to leave when I get there. Roger?”
“Okay. I mean, got it. I mean, Roger. We’ll be ready. Bye.”
