over. Sienna got into the back seat and Dan handcuffed Jennifer’s right hand to Sienna’s left.
“That should hold you,” he said. “Now I won’t have to worry about either of them escaping,” he thought, starting the engine. He drove half a block and stopped near a store cutting his
engine and lights.
Eeeeeeee! Two police car sirens whizzed past him towards
the house. The police jumped from their cars and ran to the house as Dan started his car and drove in the same direction the police used.
“You think you’re clever, don’t you,” Jennifer said.
Pow! He backhanded her across her face cutting off her words with pain and blood.
Pow! Sienna’s left back fist delivered a blow against the side of Dan’s right cheek, the sound of which rung in his ear and caused him to see stars. The shock of the blow also caused him to swerve slightly to the left then right before stopping the car on the side of the road. He shook his head and got out staggering desperately trying to maintain his balance. Stepping to the rear driver’s side door, he opened it and peered in.
That one’s free. But the next time you touch me will be your last,” he threatened Sienna.
“You keep your hands off my mother,” she said, wiping blood from Jennifer’s mouth. “You had no right to slap her!”
“Just remember what I said,” he warned.
Another police car went past them after Dan closed the door and got into the car.
“There are a few things you two need to understand, so I’ll make this simple.”
He pulled back onto the road.
“Number one, there are people who want you live or dead. Number two,” I get paid either way. Don’t force me to deal with corpses by trying to be clever. Number three, both of you have had two strikes as far as I am concerned, and all strikeouts ride in the trunk,” he finished.
