208 JAGGEDEDGE
Police and all manners of cars had begun to show up at the front of the building. Seige wanted to smile, but the thought of the price he and his men had paid was too much. He was satisfied thinking this was the beginning of the end for Blue Heaven and Corin. Visara grabbed Corin by the back of the neck and led him from the build- ing. Two bullets resonated in the dark. Bam! Bam!
In front of the building was widespread pandemonium, as people hit the ground, hid behind cars, and ran inside build- ings. A few tried to spot the sniper pointing to where they thought the sound erupted.
Visara turned her attention back to Corin who was lying face down on the concrete as his blood rapidly pooled under his body. She looked skyward again and somehow knew there were no more shots forthcoming. The shooter and bullets had found their mark. She turned Corin over and asked God how this man could get off so easily with all the pain and grief he had caused. Simul- taneously, Seige glanced skyward again and slowly lowered his head perusing the building. Visara, assisted by a police officer, reached down to pick up Corin’s body as another policeman moved to direct traffic. She and the police officer were carrying Corin’s corpse toward the ambulance as a black vehicle slowly cruised past. The driver’s eye caught Visara’s, and both women maintained their stare until the woman driving slowly moved away.
Visara’s eyes suddenly blinked with the realization of the woman’s identity. She stumbled and almost dropped Corin’s body from inattention. When she looked up again, the killer she rec- ognized as Angie from the software was about to turn the corner.
Visara knew she would never see her again.
A huge distant explosion erupted in the night. Boom! “That must be . . . Quick! take over here and make sure
Matthew is taken care of,” Seige told Brad.”
Then he ran to a policeman shouting, “Take me to that area
now!”
On the way, Seige hoped his men were okay but feared the
worse.
