7 2 JAGGEDEDGE
He pulled into his driveway and hopped out of his car livid. He stormed into the house with rage, slamming the door behind him.
“What did I do with his phone number? Wait a minute. Calm down. There will be time to raise hell. For now, just relax.”
He walked over to his easy chair and sat holding his head, trying to think of any number of pleasant things to relieve his ten- sion. Matthew had worked so hard with so few vacations all his life that he suddenly realized this was a real problem. Even if he could think of something pleasant, it was hard to relate because true plea- sure had eluded him for so long. He took a deep breath, grabbed his mail and decided to deal with it. He placed envelope after enve- lope behind each other becoming familiar with each one. The trash he placed on the side to sift through later. Going through the fourth letter of junk mail, Matthew’s mouth dropped open while he read the heading: “Millennium Off Shore Investing”.
His mouth remained open as he strained to believe he was reading his own social security number. His throat got dry, and his eyes bugged out as he read the figure in his account: “$8,200,000.37.” Matthew’s first instinct was to break out laugh- ing, but fear riveted him in position. He looked around very quickly, as if someone else would be watching, and jumped to his feet shaking his head. He could feel his heartbeat pounding as he started to sweat. He looked at the statement again to find a disclaimer on the check. There was none. He then walked over to the window hoping he had not misread.
“This can’t be somebody’s idea of a joke because it’s scaring the crap out of me!” he thought.
How could he ever explain this kind of money especially with his position in the FBI? They would put him so far under the jail darkness would have a whole new meaning. He went back to his mail.
“What other presents has been set up for me?” he wondered. Then he opened his bank statement and noticed in his savings
