that he suddenly had $12,000, $8,000 more than he had actually saved.
“Trying to take me out and leave no links to himself,” he thought.
He closed his eyes and crumpled the letter.
“He is going to pay for this more than he knows. This can be no one other than Corin.”
He walked over to the phone and suddenly remembered the number that had previously eluded him by heart.
“Hello,” came the voice from the other end of the line. “We have to meet, Matthew volunteered. “I need to talk.” “Well,” came a voice recognizing the caller. “I thought we
were finished, and I wouldn’t be hearing from you again.” “You’ve got enough toys. Don’t play with me,” said Matthew.
“I said we need to meet, and this is no time for games.”
“What did you have in mind?”
“There is a little park down the street from the Zoo. In an
hour.”
“I’m in a meeting just now and. . . .”
“Be there in two hours,” Matthew shot back and hung up. “No problem,” said the receiver to a dead line.
Matthew waited at the entrance to the park as Corin walked
towards him.
“Matt, Daddy,” Corin said slyly.
“Don’t Matt, Daddy, me you asshole. What are you trying to
do to me anyway?”
“What are you talking about?”
You know damn well what I’m talking about,” Matthew re-
torted, as he grabbed Corin in the collar and shoved him against the wall.
“Matthew, because we were close, I am going to overlook this episode of your madness. But if you ever grab me again, I’ll forget we were close. Now let me go. Now!”
Matthew slowly released his grip on Corin’s collar.
