I know you won’t believe this, but I am going to completely shut down operations in about six months. It will take me that long to get in touch with all of my people. I just need a little time nothing more.”
“What the hell do you mean by a little time?”
“Reassign your dogs for the next six months, and Blue Heaven will disappear like a bad dream.”
“Then what?”
“Then nothing. Blue Heaven will cease to exist in all forms.” “And why should I believe you? I can’t promise you I will
help you against my own troops but I will see what I can do to move them in a new direction.
“Deal,” said Corin. “In six months both of us would be rich and the threat will have vanished into smoke. By the way, if there is anything else you need to tell me, here is my direct number.”
“You have two months,” Matthew added. “No promises ex- cept that I will do what I can to help you. Cross me, and none of this will matter.”
As both men walked away from each other, a hidden cam- eraman with a parabolic microphone waited smiling silently before packing up his gear. Matthew rode home wondering what he could do to get the task force off the trail for a few months. He could think of nothing. Getting the task force formed from all those agencies was hard enough. How was he going to suspend them now? He had no idea. But he would have to come up with some- thing, or it would all blow up in his face. After all, he only wanted the drugs to stop.
“How in the hell do you stop a task force?” he thought.”
Pulling into his driveway, Matthew discovered the answer. He would just send them to different schools.
“It might work,” he thought.
He stayed up all night modifying the plan. Finally, he slept like a baby. He awoke early, called his office, and then Seige.
Seige was surprised to be contacted by his boss on short notice. He sat in the director’s outer office looking at his secretary for a clue
