“You need to control yourself, Matthew. People will begin to wonder about your ability to relate.”
“Why couldn’t you quit?” Matthew quizzed.
“I have no idea what you are talking about!”
Matthew opened his shirt and took off his hat.
“See. I’m not wired. We can talk. Besides, you think I would
be out to trap you after you’ve put my own neck on the line? How in the hell am I supposed to explain millions on my salary?”
“That’s not the worse part,” said Corin. “Your offshore ac- count will continue to transfer to your savings account daily until your offshore account is empty.”
“Are you trying to crucify me?”
“No more than you were trying to crucify me when you sicked the dogs on me.”
“I didn’t sick the dogs on you. The federal government started that task force. I was just assigned to direct it. And you should complain doing untold damage to people. Let’s face it. We started out with a pretty good partnership making plenty of money until the FDA shut us down. Why did you put all that money in my account knowing our partnership is over?”
“I just wanted to make sure you got your share of the fruits of our combined labor.”
“I work for the federal government for Christ sake. I follow orders. What did you expect me to do anyway? Besides, when the FDA says no, it’s over.
“Well, for openers,” said Corin, “not knowing when the hounds would crack down caused me to lose my only daughter. And if I knew what was going on, I could have saved her.”
“I’m sorry.” I loved Tina too. But you knew they were there. Otherwise, you couldn’t have ambushed them. Moreover, filling my account with money is not going to solve your problem.”
“True. Let’s, just consider it your share of the profits with an insurance backup. After all that’s the kind of guy I am.”
“What kind of insurance are you talking about? You can’t afford to take me out without implicating yourself.”
