Presentation to President Bill Carlisle by Colonel Elms
of the Vimy Foundation book “They Fought in Colour”. For his support, Philip Grosch, President of Treble Victor Group was presented with a TBWA plaque.
An unexpected presentation was made to President Bill Carlisle by Colonel Elms, President of The Greater Toronto Branch of the RCR Association. It was a copy of the RCR print entitled, “The Fallen” and was presented to Bill in recognition for his work in mentoring the branch on their by-laws.
Congratulations were extended to RHD Chairman, Capt Ray Joseph, CD, AdeC and his committee along with Master of Ceremonies Brian MacDonald for presenting a smooth flowing evening by keeping everyone to the timelines and making the evening a great success. Well done all!
With the outbreak of Covid-19 and the uncertainty of how things will work out, the TBWA Directors agreed that there will be some form of Red Hackle Dinner January 2021 but what form such an event will take will be decided at a later date. The marking of this event will not stop. It will continue - somehow.
Our AGM had a different appearance this year with the Zoom platform incorporated. For novices, like me, the virtual format meetings will take a bit to get used to. The results of our “virtual” elections is that President Bill Carlisle will remain for another term. Ed Burgess and Bruno Lamarre retired, the latter handing over the membership portfolio to newly elected Brian Dowd.
Four happy ladies. L-R, Marylin Lawson-Dickinson, Mireille Gravel-McLellan, Sherry Duplessis, Sgt. Margaret Anthony.
John Oss has returned as a Director and Harold Dowd takes on his first term as Director and Treasurer. We wish to thank all Directors for their hard work this past term and welcome new members to the team. The TBWA will run smoothly for another term. The 2020/22 TBWA Board is comprised of President Bill Carlisle, Vice President Ray Joseph, Treasurer Harold Dowd, Derek Alexopoulos, James Corlis, Michael Dickinson, Brian Dowd, Marilyn Lawson-Dickinson, and John Oss
On another note, Cpl Bianca Lee, a TBWA Member and Drummer in the TBWA Pipes and Drums is serving with 25 Field Ambulance in Borden supporting the Territorial Brigade Group for Ontario during the Operation Laser in response to the Covid-19 pandemic. Our thanks go out to her for a job well done in the true spirit of the Black Watch and the RCAMC. Marylin Lawson Dickinson, TBWA Director, has arranged for appreciation packages from the TBWA to be sent to Cpl Lee as well as other TBWA members within the GTA through the auspices of the TMFRC. Thank you Marylin for taking on this important job.
In addition, the TBWA in conjunction with the other Association Branches has forwarded packages of appreciation to all of the active Black Watch and their fellow service personnel from other units who were posted via Operation Laser to long term care homes in the Montreal region.
That sums the year 2020 up for now from our perspective. An interesting year to say the least!
