this fine BW (RHR) of Canada front and center at all times. This year ended up a little different, however, in that I was caught up in a rush contract to teach the 8 different Cree Communities how to build and inspect houses and other types of construction. Not willing to let Remembrance Day pass without paying respects, I asked my students to go down to the cenotaph in the Georgeville Village where we were running this course, and have a moment of silence on our own. Much to my surprise the village already had a piper and a service ready to go. So, my indigenous students and I just joined in by placing a wreath. Once again, we were showing the Red Hackle front and center, this time in Georgeville. Just to note, it is always amazing how many people come up to me and say that some relative of theirs was in the Black Watch with great pride.
Remembrance Day Georgeville
In the midst of the lockdown, there is little to report from Upper Canada. We have followed with interest and pride the efforts of Black Watch soldiers on Op LASER and have contributed to the fund maintained by the Black Watch Foundation to provide them with amenities.
We’ve been concerned with the survival of our local Canadian Legion Branch in Orleans where we have held our annual BBQ the last many years and have done our bit to try to ensure their continued existence. They have been generous to us ain the past and their loss would be a blow. These are difficult times for everyone.
In the absence of our monthly luncheon gatherings, we have held a few of them “virtually”. This proved to be great sport with our many computer illiterate members bungling their way through the Zoom system. The Honorary Col and LCol joined us, giving our members a close-up look at the new Regimental hierarchy.
Our winter gatherings for St Andrew’s Day and Burns Day remain unscheduled pending the lifting of restrictions, so we’ll plan to do them virtually.
Regards to all from Upper Canada. May we meet again in the not-too-distant future.
