AN IDEAL TEACHER IS A CREATOR OF THE CYURRICULUM, HE IS
RESPONSIBLE FOR HELPING LEARNERS TO GRASP THE KNOWLEDGE.
Teachers who are the creators of the curriculum, who are responsible to help learners
to grasp the knowledge from the teacher are highly required in this school. From, the
observations over the past seven weeks, teaching for most teachers is centred on the
completion of content, rather than learner-centred learning. Direct teaching is the
commonly used teaching strategy around the school. Therefore, the school needs
teachers that will use a variety of teaching strategies to help learners of different
intelligences to grasp knowledge. According to de Beer & Gravett (2015), there is
nothing wrong with talking and using chalk, however the use of talk and chalk all the
time refers to learners as passive and therefore not engaged with the new content.
This is the reason why this school needs teachers that will engage learners with the
new content through various teaching methods such as group work, case studies,
fieldwork and excursions. Click ????? to view how cases studies were used to invite
learner’s attention.
Teachers should move away from being the
dispensers of knowledge, but be a guide and
facilitator, encouraging learners to question, challenge and investigate.
