university football teams and attempts to gain a football scholarship. Pleasingly, we have just
welcomed new boarding tutor Jeremy Osborne into Rugby House and he has made a positive
start. He has moved into the tutor’s flat next to the matron and has made a good effort to
learn the boys’ names and get involved from the outset.
The boys have coped well and shown that they are prepared should an evacuation be
necessary. The faulty alarm, while frustrating has proved our readiness. Steps are being taken
to remedy the fault.
It has been a long, wet term and it is now that we find the boys can get a little loose with
regards to our expectations and how they treat one another. I hope that everyone gets the
chance to recharge their batteries at home ready for term 3.
SUNDAY SNACK
It was determined that the gap between brunch and
dinner on Sundays was too long for some of our
boys especially when they are taking part in physical
activities. To flesh out their tuck with something a
little more substantial, the matrons are now
preparing a warm meal in the afternoon. We have
tried mousetraps and milo but the bbq sausages
seem to be the favourite. Thank you to Liz and Prue
for their efforts around this.
YEAR 12 IN RUGBY HOUSE
Great that have had Felix Blundell, Carlo Haab (Cran), David Chen and Kiyohiro Noguchi (Rep)
spending the last weeks of the term with the boys in Rugby House. The reports that are
coming back from the Rugby House residents are continually positive. Jaymin Cooper and
Jordan Martin (Rep) and Aaron Scott and Jayden Savea (Cran) will start the new term in Rugby
House.
EXEAT WEEKENDS
It has been disappointing that some boys have been dropped off at school on exeat
weekends before staff have arrived and the houses are open. Please do not bring boys back
until after 5.00pm.
UNIFORM
Please note that boys must leave and arrive at the boarding house in their uniform. Town
leave for all students unless they are using public transport which requires Formal uniform.
START OF TERM 3
The boarding houses will be open from 5.00pm on Sunday. Most of our boys arrive back
after 7.30pm but it is important to get everyone here to finalise moves and get settled for
the start of school on Monday.
This is difficult for some parents and there is the opportunity to contact the housemaster and
arrange an earlier arrival. We will also trial ordering a meal, despite the dining room not
being open. Arrangements will be finalised after we know how many people wish to take
advantage of this.
All boys will return to the boarding houses in their Formal uniforms.
TERM 2 ACTIVITIES
The wet, cold weather has forced us inside and we have been lucky enough to take
advantage of the activities that are on offer in Masterton. Archery and small-bore shooting
both proved very popular.
