What are the general rulings in the make up of the missed fasts?Some scholars say she only needs to make up the missed days.Some scholars differentiate between the two types of pregnant women. The one who breaks the fast due to difficulty on her own body only needs to make up the missed days. The one who breaks the fast due to potential harm to her baby needs to make up the days and pay fidya.Some scholars, such as ibn %u2018Abbas and ibn %u2018Omar, say she doesn't have to make up the days; she just needs to pay a fidya. This is a minority opinion.Are pregnant and nursing women able to break the fast? What is the evidence?Yes, according to the majority of the scholars, pregnant and nursing women are able to break the fast if they meet the eligibility requirements.The evidence is the hadith narrated by Abu Dawood, al-Tirmidhi, al-Nasaa%u2019i, and ibn Maajah:The Prophet pbuh said: %u201cAllah has relieved the traveler of half the prayer and of the duty to fast, and He has relieved pregnant and nursing mothers (of the duty to fast).%u201d Classed as saheeh by alAlbaani in Saheeh abi DawoodWhen is a pregnant or nursing woman eligible to break the fast?If she has reason to believe that fasting will cause difficulty for her own health or the health of her baby.How does a pregnant or nursing woman determine if her own health will be compromised? Does she have to make an attempt to fast?If it is her first pregnancy, she should attempt to fast, and if it causes her difficulty, she can break the fast.
