Keeper’s Pond

Keeper’s Pond (also called Pen-Ffordd-Goch pond), at 1,559 feet (475m) above sea
level, provides great views across the Usk Valley towards the Sugar Loaf and the
Black Mountains. The pond is within the Blaenavon World Heritage Site as well as
the National Park, examples of old coal tips can be seen from the car park. This is
a popular site for picnics and includes a ¼ mile/400m long, stone dust path with
benches, leading to interpretation and seating. The site is ideal for watching
dragonflies in the summer and birds all year round. There are two minor roads close
to the car park offering easier strolls.
How to get there: Keeper’s Pond is clearly signposted, 1.9 miles/3km north of
Blaenavon, at the peak of the winding B4246 road between Llanfoist and Blaenavon.

Public Transport: Not accessible. The nearest buses go to Blaenavon.
Parking: A tarmac surfaced car park overlooks the pond.

Distance: Up to ¼ mile/400m to the viewpoint. Less easy access routes are available.
Facilities: The nearest information centre, shops and services are in Blaenavon.
Toilets: Nearest toilets with disabled access are in Blaenavon, Abergavenny or Brynmawr.
