2 Clydach Ironworks and Picnic Site

The ruins of this blast furnace, in the lower end of the Clydach Gorge, were an
important site in the early industrial revolution. The excavated and semi-restored
remains are now protected as a Scheduled Ancient Monument and can be safely
seen from the fence.
How to get there: Leave the A465 at Clydach. Follow the brown signs to reach the car
park and picnic site on your right. NP7 0LR. The ironworks are signposted from the
entrance to the car park: turn right out of the car park, head along the tarmac road for 21
yards (20m), turn right and cross the stone bridge and up the compacted stone track for
a further 219 yards (200m) and then over the old iron bridge into the ironworks. A picnic
and barbecue area is located in the parking area.

Public Transport: The A3(TC) and 78 (TC) Abergavenny to Brynmawr buses stop
at Clydach bridge and it is a short walk from there.
Parking: There are four spaces on a level tarmac lay-by, with a further 10 spaces on the
main compacted stone car park.
Nearest EV Charging: Main Road Car Park, Gilwern, NP7 0AJ.
Distance: 0.4 miles/600m from the car park return trip.
Facilities & Toilets: The nearest facilities and public toilets are in Gilwern.
