The big day has finally arrived. You’ve carefully gone over the pros and cons
of owning a horse, and you’ve decided to dedicate a big part of your life to a
cute, fuzzy, and smart equine partner. Finding the horse of your dreams is not
always an easy task. It can take months, and in some cases, you may have to
travel the highways and byways to find your better half. Sometimes you may be
interested in a champion horse, but when you finally get to ride him, you dis-
cover that your personalities just don’t match at all. Horses are just like people:
you don’t get along so well with everyone. Once you’ve decided to buy a horse,
you can’t wait to tell your friends. You are so excited to finally go to competi-
tions with your own horse, and you can’t wait to be the best owner. However,
my first piece of advice is to keep a cool head and always look for different
options. Purchasing a horse means much more than any other purchase you’ll
ever make as an equestrian. You are buying a long-term partner, and if you
make the right choice, you’ll have the time of your life with your new horse.

Even though we spend lots of time with our horses, we also have a love life.
Choosing your dream horse is just like finding a boyfriend. First of all, you go
on a few dates to get to know him better, and see if you share some of your
personal thoughts with him. With horses, it’s exactly the same. You must ride
the horse at least twice to see if your personalities match. Don’t be scared to ask
the previous owner to ride the horse one more time, and try to do it at different
times of the day. When you’re about to drop more than a thousand bucks on a
horse, you want to make sure that it’s one that you actually enjoy riding.
