Finding the Horse of Your Dreams

jump. There have been champion mares, stallions and geldings competing in
every discipline. It’s all about your own preference as a rider. I’ve always had
a closer relationship with geldings than with mares, but I’d be happy to own a
mare at some point in my life.

How much am I able to pay for a horse?

Before you start looking for and test-riding horses for sale, consider how
much money you are able invest in a horse, so you won’t get your hopes up for
a horse you can’t afford. Expensive horses are not necessarily champion horses.
Having an expensive horse doesn’t ensure good results in competitions. The
price of a horse depends on many factors: How old is he? What is his breed?
What are his bloodlines? Where was he born? Who raised him? How much tra-
ining has he had? In what category is he competing? With what results?

So, set a budget, talk to your trainer, and look for horses in that price ran-
ge. Remember that the most important part of purchasing a horse is having a
“good feeling” when riding the horse. It isn’t the price of the horse that will
lead you to success but your connection and your hard work with your horse.
