Finding the Horse of Your Dreams
Your contract should include
CONTRACT
Name. Age.
Breed. Bloodlines.
Physical appearance (color, size, gender, specific markings).
Vet-check results.
Both the seller and buyer’s name and ID number.
Form of payment.
Total cost.
Who assumes the risks of delivery?
What happens if this contract is breached?
Red Flags
• Be careful if the owner insists on you buying the horse. It may be suspicious.
• Never buy a horse if there is something wrong with the Vet-Check, unless you
think you can deal with the problem.
• Always trust your instinct. Don’t buy a horse if you don’t feel totally comfor-
table, or if you didn’t trust the seller from the beginning.
• Make sure the horse hasn’t been denied water. A dehydrated horse is calmer
and easier to ride.
• Watch out for the owner’s attachment to the horse. Do they truly care where
the horse will end up?
