STUDENTS’ CHALLENGE IN FACING 5.0 SOCIETY AND PANDEMIC COVID 19

Abstract

Schools have problem in the process of teaching when pandemic happens. It is because
students and teachers have to stay at home. Luckily, technology solves the problem,
some technology based media are used to cut the distance. Seen from positive point of
view, it is a blessing in disguise because it trains students and teachers to face the next
industrial revolution where technology is mainly used in daily life. It is the right time for
schools and people to transform or they will be left behind. To sum, technology and
covid-19 have collaborated well in changing students and teachers’ mindset in the
process of teaching and learning.

Background

Historically, computers were introduced in industry 3.0 while in industry 4.0 computers are

connected and communicate one another to ultimately make decisions without human involvement.
What is the result? Disruption. You do not need to go to the street to stop taxi because you have

gojek application, you do not need bank teller because you can ask information and transfer your
money by using m-banking, in some cases people do not need credit analyst, insurance agent,

cashier, receptionist, and many other professions because of the development of Artificial

Intelligence (AI) combined with Internet of Thing (IoT). Then, human in 4.0 becomes passive
element. Meanwhile, society 5.0 is a vision of a society where through the integration of technology

with daily life, the society of the future will be able to sustainably create new values and services to

benefit and balance society as a whole. Japan is looking at leveraging the tools of the 4 industrial
revolution including artificial intelligence, robotics, the sharing economy, and big data to create the
new society 5.0. Thus, it offers human as active player not only passive element.

What is the difference between industry 4.0 and society 5.0? After reading some references, the

main difference between 4.0 and 5.0 is the function of technology. In 4.0 technology substitutes
human, in 5.0 technology completes human.

Problem

We are now living in the most uncertain time in history. It happens because of a rapid changing

world ever more connected and developing alongside technology. As the effect, the growth of

entrepreneurs shocks the world since it reaches 582 million. While in schools, students are not
