free of charge, attracting mostly local participants, but also participants from
neighboring countries and regions.
Since early 2009, the Golden Helix Foundation has organized 21 Golden
Helix Pharmacogenomics Days in 21 cities in 14 different countries in Europe,
Africa, and the United States (Table 9.2; Squassina et al., 2012; Stojiljkovic
et al., 2012).
Golden Helix Summer Schools
Golden Helix Summer Schools are the most recent addition to the Golden
Helix conference series. Established as a concept in 2013, and jointly orga-
nized under the umbrella of the Golden Helix Foundation and the Genomic
Medicine Alliance (see also next chapter), the Golden Helix Summer Schools
are international educational activities related to the fields of genomic medi-
cine and biomedical informatics. These educational activities constitute a
unique opportunity for researchers around the world to expand their knowl-
edge of the rapidly evolving field of genomic medicine and to exchange
innovative ideas in the conductive environment of the Greek islands. Each
