Historic Partnership with Stewart Airport, New York
In July Ireland West Airport and Stewart International Airport in
New York established the first sister airport agreement to be signed
by Ireland West Airport, forming a strategic alliance to facilitate the from Rhode Island in the US to the airport. The delegation led by Scott
exchange of information and promote and develop air access between
the two airports.
The sister airport agreement was signed at Stewart Airport in Orange
County, New York on Friday 21st July 2017 by Joe Gilmore, Managing
Director, Ireland West Airport and Ed Harrison, General Manager,
Stewart International Airport. In attendance to witness the historic
event, as part of an official trade mission to New York, were Richard
Finn, Cathaoirleach, Mayo County Council, Keith Henry, Leas-
Cathaoirleach, Sligo County Council, Ciáran Hayes, CE, Sligo County
Council, Peter Hynes, CE, Mayo County Council and Brian O’ Dwyer,
International Chairman, Ireland West Airport Knock.
Rhode Island Delegation
In September the airport and local authority partners were delighted
to welcome a delegation of travel, trade and tourism representatives
Avedisian, Mayor of Warwick, spent time visiting various locations in
County Mayo and the wider West of Ireland region before travelling to
the airport for a meeting with airport and trade and local authority
representatives from Mayo, Donegal, Galway and Sligo. The purpose
of the visit to the West of Ireland is to further develop relationships
with representatives from tourism and trade on both sides of the
Atlantic and to seek to explore opportunities to develop air services
between the two regions.
Sligo Municipal District Meeting
In December the airport was delighted to host the Municipal District
of Ballymote-Tobercurry for an official council meeting. This was a
historic occasion as it was the first time a municipal meeting of Sligo
County Council was held outside of County Sligo.
