SHEEPSHANK
his well-known knot is designed to shorten a rope without cutting it. It is also useful for
T taking the strain off a worn part of rope by positioning the damaged area in the centre of
the knot.
Make three crossing turns,
I all in the same direction
along the line.
Pull the central crossing
2 turn through the back of
the right-hand crossing turn
and through the front of the
left- hand crossing turn.
Pull on the newly formed
3 loops and then on the
standing parts.
NOTE
A sheepshank will only
hold if the strain is applied
to the standing parts.
