             oth faces  of this knot are of the same appearance; compare it  to  the fisherman's  knot,
         Bwhich  has  one face  identical to the double figure-of-eight. Leaving the knots a couple of
         inches  apart on the double  figure-of eight will  produce a knot that will  absorb  a sudden
         shock or jerk by sliding before it holds.


                                      Make a loop in one end of
                                    I a length  of rope so  that the
                                   working end lies  on  top of the
                                   standing part.














            Hold  the loop and  give  it  a
         2  half-twist.










                                                                Tuck the working end
                                                             3  through the loop  above  the
                                                             twist, making the figure-of-
                                                             eight outline.
