Student’s Responsibilities:
                   1. Each student is expected to read the designated chapter(s) of the set text in
advance of the class. The chapters are listed in the tentative course schedule.
                   2. Student must accept responsibility for the learning by attending all classes and
                        submitting all assignments ON TIME.
                   3. Group discussions, questions and presentations are intended to make the classes
active and enjoyable; therefore each student has the responsibility of
contributing to the success of the class by contributing.
                   4. Assignments must be the students’ original work. Any use of materials from
books and journals must be recognized through correct references.

Posting of Course Contents and Announcements:
All course materials, including lectures power-point, notes, supplementary
information, assignment guidelines …etc are all provided in the course Blackboard.
Announcement will also be posted on Blackboard. Students may use the Blackboard
as a channel for communication in addition to email.

                   Guidelines on Plagiarism:
The Chinese University of Hong Kong places high importance on honesty in academic
work submitted by students, and adopts a revised and more stringent policy towards
cheating and plagiarism. While a full version of the policy can be read from the web
page www.cuhk.edu.hk/policy/academichonesty/, the followings are some highlights
for your reference and MUST be observed:

                   1. If a student is found plagiarizing, his/her case will be reported to the Department
Examination Panel. If the case is proven after deliberation, the student will
automatically fail the course in which he/she committed plagiarism. The
definition of plagiarism includes copying of the whole or parts of written
assignments, programming exercises, reports, quiz papers, mid-term
                        examinations and final examinations.

                   2. The penalty will apply to both the one who copies the work and the one whose
work is being copied, unless the latter can prove his/her work has been copied
unwittingly. Furthermore, inclusion of others' works or results without citation in
assignments and reports is also regarded as plagiarism with similar penalty to the
                        offender.

                   3. A student caught plagiarizing during tests or examinations will be reported to the
Faculty office and appropriate disciplinary authorities for further action, in
                        addition to failing the course.

                   4. Handling cases of Plagiarism or Cheating in Examinations
Teachers should report all cases of suspected plagiarism or cheating immediately
to the disciplinary committee of the faculty concerned. The faculty disciplinary
committee will look into the case, including meeting with the student. If the
charge is established, a minimum of one demerit and a mark of zero for that
                       component for a first offence.
