• EPA, or the Environmental Protection Agency, is an independent federal
agency, created in 1970, that sets and enforces rules and standards that
protect the environment and control pollution.
• ESGT, or the Enterprise Sustainability Governance Team, is a team
composed of various cross-functional leaders within GOJO who are
accountable for the ongoing strategic governance and implementation
process that ensures social, environmental and economic sustainability
are critical components of GOJO business practices.
• Global Reporting Initiative’s (GRI) is an independent, international
organization that helps businesses, governments and other organizations
understand and communicate the impact of business on critical
sustainability issues. GRI is considered the world’s leading reporting
framework.
• Greenhouse Gases (GHGs) are components of the atmosphere that
come from natural sources and human activity and contribute to the
“greenhouse effect.” These include water vapors, carbon dioxide,
methane, nitrous oxide, ozone and chlorofluorocarbons.
• Life-Cycle Analysis – A methodology used to identify and quantify the
environmental impacts of a product, service or activity, throughout its
entire life-cycle. Life-cycle analysis (LCA) gives us a better understanding
of the human health and environmental impacts of design and production
decisions, from an initial concept through the end of a product’s life.
• Life-Cycle Thinking – Life-cycle thinking is the application of life-cycle
principles to everyday challenges and situations. (I believe this is defined
as a GOJO competency as well)
• LEED/EBOM - LEED is an acronym for Leadership in Energy and
Environmental Design, a rating system developed by the United States
Green Building Council. EBOM is an acronym for Existing Buildings
Operations and Maintenance.
• Materiality Assessment - A process, including stakeholder engagement
that is used to objectively determine the most significant sustainability
topics for a company to proactively manage. Conducting a materiality
assessment uncovers opportunities, risks and insights to advance
Sustainable Value.
• Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) are International
organizations and generally nonprofit organizations independent of
specific governments that are active in humanitarian, educational,
healthcare, public policy, social, human rights, environmental, and other
areas to effect changes according to their objectives. S W O W S M

• Non-renewable Resource is a resource that is unable to be regenerated
or renewed fully and without loss of quality once it is used.
