Job assignments
• Volunteer to lead a project that will require driving many actions within very aggressive time frames.
• Take on a daunting task such as stepping in to fix a critical initiative that has stalled, lost focus, or
encountered major obstacles.
• Identify and pursue a bold new opportunity for the organization. Make a case for the new idea, draft a
plan of action, and carry forward the steps needed to ensure successful returns.
• Turn around the performance of a project team or group that has become bogged down by many
competing priorities. Provide a clear path forward and execute the vital actions necessary for success.
• Take responsibility for a task or a target that people have grown weary of and instill a feeling of
renewed purpose, energy, and drive in the team.
Take time to reflect…
If you shy away from getting started and find yourself hesitating instead of acting…
…then recognize that thinking about it, analyzing it, and planning it are all important, but they
don’t get the job done. You have to take the plunge and get going.
If you worry your course of action is not correct and may fail…
…then be aware that putting things off is not going to help. Even if the way isn’t certain, take a
few preliminary steps. As you push ahead, the right path will likely grow clearer.
If you often lose sight of the purpose and goal…
…then reflect on the “Why?” behind what you are doing. Busy does not mean effective. Keeping
focused on the overall goal is critical to staying productive and aligned.
“You are what you do, not what you say you’ll do.”
