The Man In Love
It is to filth - fleshly deeds and preoccupations - from our beings, to return to God and recommit to Him, and to serve Him whole- heartedly from that point forward.
The scripture in Ephesians 5:26 also shows us the ‘instrument’ for sanctifying our wives. It is the word of God. They are sanctified as we use the word of God to wash them as we wash our bodies with water! Jesus made this clear in John 17:13,17 saying:
I have given them Your word; and the world has hated them because they are not of the world, just as I am not of the world. ....... Sanctify them by Your truth. Your word is truth.
John 13,17
Jesus gave His disciples then (as well as us in the present time) the word of God and He told us that it is the word that sanctifies us. Therefore, we are consecrated to God, made holy, free from sin and fit for use by the Master by His word.
Whereas the word of God is the ‘instrument’ that sanctifies us, the Holy Spirit is the ‘vehicle’ that enforces our sanctification. The word of God is like the “launderers’ soap” referred to in Malachi 3:1-4, in the hands of the messenger of God, the Holy
