The Man In Love
19. Christ Shared Everything With Them
Now when He got into a boat, His disciples followed Him. And suddenly a great tempest arose on the sea, so that the boat was covered with the waves. But He was asleep. Then His disciples came to Him and awoke Him, saying, “Lord, save us! We are perishing!” But He said to them, “Why are you fearful, O you of little faith?” Then He arose and rebuked the winds and the sea, and there was a great calm. So the men marveled, saying, “Who can this be, that even the winds and the sea obey Him?”
Matthew 8:23-27
Jesus did not treat himself differently from His disciples whenever He was with them. He shared everything with them. He did not sleep on a special bed neither did He have a special room where no disciple could enter. He did not eat food different from what His disciples ate or even the multitude such as was the case in Matthew 14:15-21 when thousands were fed. He was in the same both with His disciples when the winds came at them in full force. He subjected himself to exactly the same experiences and situations that His disciples encountered. That is the reason why Hebrews said we have a high priest who is also touched by the feeling of our infirmities.
