The Man In Love
You will recall that so much emphasis was placed on the need for husbands to commit themselves to feeding on the word with which their wives would be sanctified and washed as with water. We see the same vividly here and understand how the husband can feed the word of God into his own being and also into his wife, which is then applied to give life and health (or general wellbeing) to her.
The heart of man being in the body, the wife, perhaps shows why wives are as so emotional. By this phenomenon, wives are also understood to be a vital mirror through which husbands can assess themselves, and especially the quality of their walk with God. Our wives are like the conscience of husbands that serve to guide us so that we do not fall into error. The more work a husband does on his wife, by sanctification and cleansing through the word of God, the more credible the wife’s conscience as a guide becomes. This is one reason that it is always a great idea for husbands to discuss his plans with his wife. Her well tended and nourished conscience will serve as a way of checking whether the planned action is appropriate or inappropriate.
