The Man In Love
We understand that love “does not parade itself,” “is not puffed up,” and “does not seek its own.” That is, love does not count itself more highly than others, does not lord itself over others so as to have its own way, and it is disposed to allowing others have their way while it makes its own desires secondary. These are attributes of a life of sacrifice. Love is a life of sacrifice between the parties involved. The sacrifice applies both ways, from husband to wife and from wife to husband.
Love, A Call To Sacrifice
Therefore be imitators of God as dear children. And walk in love, as Christ also has loved us and given Himself for us, an offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweet- smelling aroma.
Ephesians 5:1-2
Jesus after whom the love of the husband toward his wife is to be patterned, lived a life of total sacrifice. Men must therefore, understand Christ’s love as a life of sacrifice. A full understanding of the love of Christ toward His church cannot be in place without us being grounded in the sacrifice dimension of that love.
