The Man In Love
In the scripture above, we must take notice that husband and wife respectively cannot love father or mother more than their partner. It would be unnatural in the circumstance and it would be a violation of the word of God. In fact the scripture warns that whoever among the parties loves anyone more than the other is not worthy of him or her. If the husband loves anyone else, including their own children, more than the wife, he is not worthy of the wife. If the wife loves anyone more than the husband, she also is not worthy of the husband.
Because the new union that husband and wife form when they come together is hid in Christ, both of them are only allowed to love Christ more than they love each other. Christ still takes preeminence in the relationship because as our Saviour and Lord, a head and body relationship is held with Him. Accordingly, the union of husband and wife must have Christ as their ultimate love, the ultimate bridegroom!
