The Man In Love
faith and of the knowledge of the Son of God, to a perfect man, to the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ” (Ephesians 4:13). In verse 15, this goal is reinforced when the scripture says that we “may grow up in all things into Him who is the head—Christ” (Ephesians 3:15). This new entity formed by the coming together of man and wife must operate in a manner that together they come to the state of perfection in Christ, where the knowledge Jesus is strong and they look exactly like Jesus in all things. This is the state where the ‘one flesh’ is holy and without blemish according to Ephesians 5:27.
In verse 8, we have the assurance that Christ has given a measure of the gift of grace unto each of husband and wife, which they bring into the new flesh, and engage in the pursuit of their calling, so that the ultimate goal can be achieved. Again, we see that it is not true that each of husband and wife lack all they need to make the new identity a beneficial reality and to attain it ultimate goal. As each party fulfills his own assignment, deploying its grace, the whole body grows and love grows in the body as well.
