The Man In Love
like you; but I do know Him and keep His word. Your father Abraham rejoiced to see My day, and he saw it and was glad.” Then the Jews said to Him, “You are not yet fifty years old, and have You seen Abraham?” Jesus said to them, “Most assuredly, I say to you, before Abraham was, I AM.” Then they took up stones to throw at Him; but Jesus hid Himself and went out of the temple, going through the midst of them, and so passed by.
John 8:54-59
The extent of the sacrifice that Jesus made for us to be saved could not easily be understood and appreciated by the people in His days, especially the Jews. It was a real challenge for them to relate to Jesus who came as a mere man and was given birth to by a mere woman, as a God. Jesus made certain statements of truth such as the ones in the scripture referenced above where He made clear that He knew God, whom the Jews acknowledged as their Father whereas they did not know Him, and that Abraham, whom they acknowledged as their ancestral father, “rejoiced to see” His day! He then said to them that before Abraham was born, He was already in existence. He said, “before Abraham was, I AM.” The lack of understanding of who Jesus
