The Man In Love
For God is not unjust to forget your work and labor of love which you have shown toward His name, in that you have ministered to the saints, and do minister.
Hebrews 6:10
The commandment given to husbands to love their wives is not burdensome but it involves work. Hebrews 6:10 calls it the “labour of love.” That means we have to labour in showing love to our wives. That means there is what men must engage in to develop their capacity to love and to exercise themselves in the love walk.
Love is not a ‘gift’ but a ‘fruit.’ It takes labour to produce fruit. That labour begins with obtaining the seed and involves preparing the land, planting the seed, watering the planted seed, weeding, nurturing, and application of manure before the fruit is produced and ready for harvest.
Though the commandment to love our wives has been given, and we have what it takes to fulfill it, yet many husbands fail to love their wives. The problem has to do with not laboring sufficiently to build up the capacity to love in themselves. God has made all the provision for us to obey His word but we must take up the responsibility and work out our own salvation.
