The Man In Love
his brother in need, and shuts up his heart from him, how does the love of God abide in him? My little children, let us not love in word or in tongue, but in deed and in truth.
1 John 3:16-18
Jesus not only gave a new commandment to us to love one another, He demonstrated what that kind of love meant through His action. He loved in deed and in truth! He laid down His life. This is practical love, aptly demonstrated. John also said in the scripture above that we also ought to lay our lives for one another. We are enjoined to follow the example of Jesus not just by professing love but by a practical walk therein.
Love is not expressed by lip service. There is a wise saying that “talk is cheap.” Anyone can talk but not all can walk their talk. To love in deed and in truth is to walk the talk of love. Jesus walked the talk of His profession of love and we also must do same in our quest to obey the commandment to love our wives as husbands. God lamented the lip service that the children of Israel paid to loving Him when He stated in Matthew 15:8 as follows,
Hypocrites! Well did Isaiah prophesy about you, saying: ‘These people draw near to Me with their mouth, and honor Me with their lips, but their heart is far from Me.
