THE BENCHMARK FOR THE HUSBAND’S LOVE
The word ‘love’ is very popular and very frequently used. This is even more so in relationships, especially between men and women. Ephesians 5:25 also commands husbands to love their wives. Before we jump into the conclusion that the commandment to love is not really a big deal, in that it does not differ from what we all have always known to be love, it is important to read the commandment in its full context. Read in that context, it should become clear that the love commanded for husbands to show to their wives is not ordinary. In order to make clear that the commandment is truly ‘new,’ the love used is benchmarked against that which was seen and documented for our example. That benchmark for love is what this chapter focuses on.
