The Man In Love
The Love Of Christ
Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ also loved the church and gave Himself for her
Ephesians 5:25
In the previous chapter, we focused only on a part of the commandment that God gave to the husbands concerning their wives. We zeroed in on the command to love our wives. However, reading the commandment in its more complete rendition as stated in verse 25 of Ephesians 5, we understand that the love that God commanded was qualified! The scriptures did not stop at just prescribing love, but pointed to a certain type or version of love. This was done by the Spirit of God that gave inspiration for all scriptures to avoid misinterpretation, misinformation and confusion within the body of Christ.
The full statement in that verse 25 makes clear that husbands are to love their wives “just as Christ loved the church and gave Himself for it.” The scriptures thus gave us a clear benchmark for the love that God commanded us to show to our wives. The love that God will accept as fulfillment of this
