Description of Course Assignments
At the beginning of the semester, students will choose one rural health issue/topics to examine for
assignments #1 and #2. If applicable, you may choose a topic linked to your ongoing research or
one that conveys a personal experience
Assignment #1: Flipbook Presentation (25%)
Each week will be focused on a general area as outlined in this syllabus. During the first week of
classes, you will be asked to indicate which week you would like to present in. Once your week is
chosen you will be responsible for creating an electronic flipbook presentation to share with the
class. Given the large registration numbers this semester, students can work in pairs/groups
if desired. You may also choose to prepare a whiteboard video or similar medium. That being said it
is not expected that students incur an expense to complete this assignment. Feel free to use sound,
graphics, music etc… as you create. Please share your flipbook at the beginning of the week in which
you present. Have fun with this assignment and be creative.
Instructions
1. Create a 6-9 page digital flipbook presentation plus a bibliography (cite your readings);
2. Your target audience is the general public. You are providing a lay audience overview of the
required readings. Think about how information can be made accessible, engaging, and
attractive (incorporate at least one infographic). Consider how you would explain the content to
an older relative of yours who never went to college or university.
3. Condense THREE required readings into 2-3 pages (max) each. Consider using infographics
and other visual graphics to convey information. Do not make this text-heavy. Think about how
you can convey the most important information in a succinct and engaging way. Answer:
What is the main point?
Why is this important?
