Strategic Performance in 2018
            The year 2018 was the 3rd year in implementing the University Strategic Plan for the period 2016 – 2020. On an
            annual basis, all units at the University (46 units) formulated and implemented their management plans which
            were being cascaded from the Strategic Plan. The annual management plans are means of ensuring that
            strategy is operationalised at the lower levels (unit levels) of the institution.

            The overall University strategic performance during the 2018 Academic year stood at 64%. Below is the chart
            showing institutional performance by strategic theme.

            Research and innovation excellence theme was the best performer followed by stakeholder relational
            excellence, and service delivery excellence. The high performance rate achieved under the research and
            innovation excellence theme was mainly attributed to good results recorded under the following strategic
            objectives: improve and increase research and innovation outputs; improve community services and impact;
            and increase funding for research and innovation, of which the average performances were 86%, 83% and 70%
            respectively.

            The second high performing theme, namely, stakeholder relational excellence, was mainly due to good
            results under the following strategic objectives: improve national and international collaboration and improve
            corporate image, of which the average performances were 78%, and 69% respectively.
