Background
For two decades now, SchoolNet has established a sound reputation for the delivery of training to
teachers and educational managers throughout South Africa. This has been achieved through
demonstrating extensive knowledge of educational and pedagogic processes and the ways in which
different technologies can support the work of teachers, learners and managers. Although teachers
are not the only stakeholders, for this task, it is their learning which will be the focus.
Who?
Teachers in South African public schools have varied levels of skills in terms of ICT
integration. The complexity is further diverse within the ecosystem in each school.
SchoolNet’s pathway of digital learning builds competences based on individual teachers’ expertise
and experience (adult learner experience) with digital technologies for learning.
What?
SchoolNet provides a range of different courses that aim to build teachers competences to
gain independence in their application of digital skills in their classroom contexts and thereby improve
their self-concept.
When?
Teachers’ orientation to learning must be immediate application of knowledge to
1. Demonstrate that the teacher has gained independence
2. Instils belief by the teacher that they can accomplish the task/s
3. Just in time learning allows teachers to learn as they see the need rather than just in case.
