                                            Giving Suggestion and Advising

There are many ways of giving advice and suggestion in English. But here, we should
know that there is a little difference between suggestion and advice. Giving suggestion
means you give solution that is expected to be done whereas giving a piece of advice is
                   strongly recommended to be done.
Look at the following dialogue to learn how to give suggestion and advice:
Hadrianti : I'm having problems learning English. I don‟t know how to pronounce some
words. What should I do, Kukuh ?
Kukuh : Umm… You really ought to watch English television. It can help you
                                to improve your pronunciation.

Chakra : I'm having problems learning English. I don‟t know how to pronounce
some words. Can you give me suggestion, Irma?
Irmayanti : Well, I think you should perhaps look at the english-at-home.com
                                website.
Yudhie : let‟s turn on the music while studying. Hum… this is nice song, isn‟t it?
Rida : Hey… you’d better turn that music down before your Dad gets angry.

                         If I were them I would…

                                                 him

Speaking Tip : we often use “were” instead of “was” after „if‟. This is common in
                                       both formal and informal styles.
