Tower at University of Delaware STAR Campus

Owner/User: Delle Donne & Associates, Inc.

Location: Newark, Delaware
Design Statement: Bernardon provided design services
for the STAR Tower, a public-private partnership between
the University of Delaware and Delle Donne & Associates.
This ten-story building is located at the University of
Delaware STAR (Science, Technology, and Advanced
Research) Campus. The 120,000 SF structure houses high-
tech classrooms and research facilities. Floors 2 through
7 are occupied by the University of Delaware College of The design is inspired by “the butterfly effect,” which states that
Health Sciences, the college’s leadership team, and two the smallest change or interaction in one location can prompt
departments. Education and research spaces are included, dramatic change in another. The Tower design reflects this by
as well as new community wellness clinics. The remaining taking on the abstract form of a butterfly emerging from a garden,
three floors consist of office space for commercial which is represented by the adjoining Atrium and Multipurpose
tenants working in the fields of biomedical engineering, Audion. This imagery serves as an iconic reminder of the change
information technology, or other sciences. and innovation that interactions on the campus strive to create.

treatment in the same place where cutting-edge research is taking place.”
