JOVELYN L. PORLUCAS
This study aimed to determine the extent of utilization of multimedia in teaching
kindergarten in the municipalities of Anao, Moncada and San Manuel for the SY 2015-2016.
Specifically, it established the profile of the kindergarten teachers in terms of personal and
professional attributes, the extent of utilization of multimedia in teaching kindergarten teachers,
Moreover, it also determined it there exists significant difference in the extent of utilization
in teaching kindergarten by the respondent across their profile variable and if there exists
significant relationship between the extent of multimedia utilization in teaching kindergarten by
the respondent teachers and the selected profile variable.
For the personal attribute of the teacher-respondents, most of them were females and
the remaining were males. In terms of age, majority belong to the age bracket of 31-40 years
old, almost one-fourth belongs to age bracket of 21-30 years old and remaining belongs to the
age bracket of 41 years old and above. With regard to civil status, more than three-fourth of
the respondents were married. However, in terms of the professional attributes of the teacher-
respondents, majority of them were BEED/BSE/BS holder, the others earned their MA units
and the remaining were MA/MS degree holder. In terms of the number of years in teaching
kindergarten, most of them had been for less than 5 years in the service and only had been
teaching kindergarten for about 6-10 years. With regard to their nature of appointment, majority
were regular/permanent and the remaining were funded by the PTA. The extent of utilization
of multimedia in teaching kindergarten as assessed by teachers were “moderately utilized” with
weighted mean of 3.44 for theme-related, 3.37 on Math, 2.84 for indoor and 2.84 for outdoor
activities respectively. Along language activities, the extent of utilization of multimedia in teaching
kindergarten as assessed by teachers is “utilized” with a weighted mean of 3.58.
However, from the foregoing findings, the researcher recommends the following; the
teachers should attained higher level seminar/trainings to improve the teacher’s knowledge on
new trends in technology as a source of learning. They should develop to the fullest objectives
of using multimedia resources as part of the curriculum to cater the 21st century skills like
creativity, collaboration, critical thinking and communication skills to the learners. The school
administrator should formulate seminar/trainings to all kindergarten teachers to equip in using
the innovative teaching which is the multimedia instruction so that pupils to be able to cope and
can adjust to the global advancement of learning. Teachers must be properly updated with the
different multimedia instructional materials through reading, and attending seminars workshop
and trainings which involves multimedia teaching methods in order for them to be able to be fully
competent in using such technology. School administrators should encourage the kindergarten
teachers to enrol in Masteral Degree or in Doctoral Degree program for their professional growth.
