Welcome to Summer...
Message from the Exalted Ruler
Mike “Shu” Michaud
Welcome one and all to Summer! One can only hope that the weather pattern will change for the better as we have a busy Summer ahead. First of all, I would like to congratulate our Father of the Year for 2017/2018, John Loiko. John is also, the longest standing member of our lodge with more than 62 years. He was presented with the Lodge Cane, signifying that honor. The Father’s Day Brunch was exceptional, once again thanks to Sandy Point Catering for providing an outstanding meal, a truly memorable day for all the family and friends that attended. Thanks to Lorana Laliberte for putting on the event, your hard work and dedication to the event made it the success it was.
We also celebrated our rst Initiation of the year on the Saturday the 24 th of June. I want to welcome all of the newly initiated members, as well as the newer members that have been initiated since last fall. We hope to see all of you in the coming months enjoying all that Elkdom has to o er, I’m sure you will not be disappointed. I would like to also thanks my o cers, it was our rst time performing the solemn ceremony of Ritual, as nervous as we all were, you all did a great job. As usual the dinner was outstanding, thanks, again to Sandy Point Catering for always putting your best e orts forward, as our palettes were
once again satis ed beyond expectations.
I would like to take this next paragraph to thank “Sandy Point Catering” for a great job over the last 6 or so years. Chefs’ Mike & Sue and their sta (Brandon) did an exemplary job providing the freshest, Epicurus delights, leaving no one disappointed. Mike & Sue are moving on to explore other opportunities and we wish them nothing but the best in their new endeavor, I can’t wait to try some fresh deep-fried seafood. We will miss you, please don’t be strangers.
Thus, far, I have failed every month to mention people that have made an impact on our lodge and functions.

We held the 88th annual Maine State Elks Convention in May and have heard nothing but rave reviews by all that attended. I would be remiss if I didn’t take the time to thank the great group of folks who came up from the Gardiner Lodge to perform their show after the Saturday Evening Banquet. It was certainly the frosting on the cake for the weekend, we had a roomful of very enthusiastic attendees that were treated to a magni cent show. To top it o , the nale will resonate in my heart and mind for a long time. Every person in that room joined together in a giant circle singing God Bless America, I had a great feeling of pride!
We also celebrated our annual Flag Day ceremony held at the Lodge on June 11th , the event was well attended. Thank you to Cub Scout Pack 684 and Boy Scout Troop 631 for being our ag bearers for the event, they did an excellent job and certainly added to the pageantry of the day. Also, the Emblem provided the luncheon, afterwards, you ladies are the best and are always there for the Elks.
We have a very busy Summer, ahead of us, with a Golf Tournament scheduled for July 9 th at Westernview Golf Course, an area club Cribbage tournament to be held at our lodge on July 22nd-23rd.
