CHARACTER BUILDING
Character Traits and Leadership
David had a slingshot and 5 smooth stones. Look at Ephesians 6: 10-18 for the weap-
ons at your disposal – Breastplate of righteousness, Feet fitted with the readiness that
comes from the gospel of peace, Shield of Faith, Helmet of Salvation, Sword of the
Spirit (Word of God) and Prayer.
Coach Brooks of the USA hockey team was armed with leadership traits that allowed
the team to overcome their most feared giant. He had the respect of every team mem-
ber. They may not have always liked him but they respected him. Decisions were made
in a decisive manner. He had to cut one player... He debated that decision before the
meeting, not during it, and then he cut the player. He was decisive. Finally, he was an
encourager. Coach was known for his militant hockey drills during practice. But he
was also known for speaking words that encouraged his players which empowered
them to give their best. His speech before his players hit the ice to face the Russians in
that semifinal game proved this to be true. “You were born for this.”
ACTION THRU LEADERSHIP
What weapons do you have?
What leadership traits do you bring to your team?
What traits do you admire in others?
